World Menopause Day - The Quiet Middle We Don't Talk About Enough

Every year on World Menopause Day, the internet fills with tips, medical facts and product suggestions - all useful in their own way I guess.
What I rarely see talked about is the quiet middle - the space where women simply feel a bit lost in their own skin. I know I have.

It’s not dramatic or life-shattering. It’s subtle. You do not even realise it is coming!
It creeps up on you without you knowing, change in moods, not being able to put up with anyone's BS anymore, the anxious thoughts that appear out of nowhere, the sense that your sparkle has dulled a little.
Most of all, it’s the feeling that you should be coping better than you are, but how are we really meant to be coping with it all? What are we meant to feel?
I’ve met so many women who say they feel invisible during this stage, not because they aren’t strong, but because life keeps asking them to hold everything together: work, family, ageing parents, changing bodies, shifting moods.
It’s a lot. And yet we brush it off with a laugh and a “I’m fine.” It is so OK to NOT be fine. There have been many times when I am not fine. I feel like my shoulders NEVER relax, my body is constantly tense but I am making more time especially at night to really wind down the day. I listen to some gratitude meditations which are very relaxing (so much so I have never got to the end!)
The truth is midlife doesn’t just need to be endured. It needs to be nurtured.
That belief is what inspired Sum Retreats: a space where women can pause, breathe and reconnect with themselves without the pressure to transform or perform. I am seeing more than ever women in midlife achieving the most extraordinary things. Things they have not done when they were younger but feel now is the right time to come into their own. I believe Peri/Menopause is almost like a rebirth for women in midlife now.
For me, World Menopause Day isn’t about statistics or supplements.
It’s about acknowledging that we’re in a chapter that deserves gentleness, beauty and laughter. Together.
So today, I’m raising a glass to every woman who’s figuring it out as she goes, I know I am!
You’re not invisible — you’re evolving.
